Dr. Joel B Carboni

About Me

Dr. Joel Carboni is a regenerative leadership and sustainability pioneer whose work sits at the intersection of organizational design, project delivery, and planetary limits. He is the architect of the GPM P5 Standards for Sustainability in Project Management and Business Practice and has authored sustainability standards now used by the Project Management Institute (PMI) through the PMI–GPM joint venture.

Joel contributes to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and serves on international working groups shaping the next generation of sustainability and pollution standards, as well as the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (including work on the UN Sustainable Development Goals).

Over more than 25 years, his tools and methodologies have been adopted by corporations, governments, and universities in more than 50 countries to embed sustainability and regeneration into mainstream project management and governance. He is the creator of the PRiSM project delivery methodology and the P5 Standard, and his work on sustainable project management has been widely taught and cited.

In 2025, Joel was shortlisted for a Thinkers50 award, recognizing his contributions to regenerative leadership and the future of management practice. He has also served as a representative to the UN Global Compact and has been recognized with multiple global sustainability and leadership awards.

He is the author of Sustainable Project Management, Becoming Regenerative, and The Real Cost of Regeneration: Judgment and the Limits of Modern Organizations.
