During his engineering career, Gerard Wood became passionate about two things: practical asset management and quality work by tradies. After 40 years in maintenance, from starting as a tradie to leading asset management across entire businesses and assisting multiple companies sustainably improve their reliability, he has seen what really drives reliability, and it is not reports, dash-boards, or meetings. It is skilled people doing the right work, the right way. That is the engine room of reliability performance.

Through decades of helping sites lift their game, Gerard came to a simple realisation: nothing improves reliability faster than quality trades work backed by practical, no-nonsense maintenance leadership. That is the heartbeat of his coaching and his books, Simplifying Mining Maintenance and Only Tradies Improve Reliability. He keeps it sharp, straight-talking, and yeah, he likes to share a few laughs too.

Gerard would love his latest book to positively impact 1 million tradies, helping them gain more job satisfaction, feel proud to be part of a successful team, and get their businesses to perform better. When he started in the consulting game, he also wanted to make a positive difference in the industries he worked in, but he soon realised he needed to reach a larger and broader audience to make a more significant difference. Hence, he turned his attention to using media, books, and online platforms to share his experience and help more people improve faster and benefit from the experiences he was fortunate to have during his career.
